After two years of COVID-19 disruptions, the Ship for World Youth program will return to a face-to-face exchange combined with online exchange in a hybrid format. Australian delegates will join those from:

in this unique cultural exchange and youth development program. Applications are now open for Australian youth for eight funded places on the 2022-2023 SWY Hybrid program.

About SWY Hybrid..
SWY hybrid will combine 1-month online exchange and 2-weeks of face-to-face exchange including discussions, seminars and cultural exchange. This program will make the most of SWY's unique characteristics as well as the benefits of modern society.
Program Dates...
The SWY hybrid program will run over the dates outlined to the right.
Applicants must be available to attend all dates without exception.

​Friday 11th November to Sunday 13th November: Compulsory pre-departure training weekend in Canberra *please note that participation in this weekend is at your own cost

Sundays 27th November, 4th December and 11th December 17:00-20:00 (approx. 3 hours) *Japan Standard Time: Online exchange (Western hemisphere including Australia)

Saturday 19th November to Sunday 18th December: Social exchange in a virtual space open to all participants and led by the participants themselves

Tuesday 7th February: arrive in Japan

Wednesday 8th February to Friday 10th February: online readiness program for face-to-face exchange

Saturday 11th February to Monday 20th February: face-to-face exchange program including 3-day visit to a Japanese prefecture.

Tuesday 21st February: return to Australia
Who is eligible...

​To be eligible to represent Australia on this program, you must:
​

Be 18 to 32 years old and an Australian citizen *as at 1st April 2022
-
Be able to participate in the entire program, including pre-departure training in Canberra
-
Be interested in cultural exchange
-
Be willing to challenge yourself in what it means to be a global citizen
-
Be driven to develop your leadership skills
-
Be interested in Japan and facilitating friendship between Australia and Japan *Japanese language skills may be an advantage but are not a requirement of the program
What you will gain...
The SWY program provides youth with an opportunity to study and discuss issues of common interest from a global viewpoint, through lectures, cultural exchanges and seminars. SWY participants will gain the ability to work with different cultures, communications skills, leadership skills and project management skills.
